PA Department of Education, November 3, 2021

Bellefonte, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Education Secretary Dr. Noe Ortega today visited Bellefonte Elementary School and the Bellefonte eLearning Academy (BeLA) in Bellefonte Area School District (BASD) to learn how the district is connecting students through technology and virtual learning, meeting the unique needs of all students during the pandemic and beyond. “There is no doubt that over the past two years, our schools, students, and educators have been thrust into a new reality—one that necessitates flexibility, access to digital resources, and a certain level of resilience,” said Secretary Ortega. “Through its innovative use of technology and its efforts to provide an inclusive and equitable education for all students, Bellefonte Area School District is embracing the opportunities presented to us and preparing learners to adapt and achieve in the years to come.”  During the visit, Sec. Ortega toured the elementary school to see how it serves kindergarten to grade 5 students and how the district reacted to the pandemic and prepared young students to be ready to learn remotely.
